Designed by the internationally renowned, award-winning Zaha Hadid, the Eli and Edythe Broad Art Museum opened in 2012 on the campus of Michigan State University is a work of art in its own right.

Hadid’s futuristic design, with its sharp angles and flowing lines, has become an iconic landmark in downtown East Lansing.  Walking past the museum, it’s difficult not to admire how the museum stands out against the backdrop of East Lansing’s more traditional architecture.

The Broad Art Museum is not only a showcase for modern art but also a bridge to East Lansing’s artistic legacy. When the Kresge Art Museum closed its doors in 2012, its extensive collection of classical and historical works found a new home within the Broad. This blending of past and present offers visitors a rare opportunity to experience the evolution of art in one space.

Whether you’re drawn to ancient pottery or avant-garde installations, the Broad’s curatorial approach ensures there’s something to captivate every art lover.

Another standout feature is its community-centered programming. From family-friendly workshops to thought-provoking lectures, the museum has worked hard to establish itself as more than just a place to observe art — it’s a space to connect, learn and engage. Exhibits often highlight global themes but with a local twist, reflecting Michigan’s cultural and social narratives.

Over a decade since its opening, the Broad Art Museum continues to be a dynamic cultural hub. Whether you’re a seasoned art aficionado or someone who’s just curious about what makes a space like this so special, the Broad offers an experience that lingers long after you leave. Its commitment to innovation, inclusion and artistic excellence keeps it at the heart of Michigan’s cultural scene, proving that great art is not just for the elite but for everyone willing to explore it.
