Gray Media has had quite the run lately. First came the announcement that the Federal Communications Commission had approved the Gray Media/WILX-TV 10 acquisition of WSYM-TV FOX 47 from The E.W. Scripps Company. The stations officially combined operations on May 15.
Then came June 5, the groundbreaking of the expansion of its current facility, which will grow by approximately 14,000 square feet, adding a new studio, master control, newsroom and sales space. The existing building will also be renovated, bringing the total footprint to approximately 30,000 square feet. The building is expected to be completed in December 2027.
And most recently, Gray Media Lansing was recognized by the Michigan Association of Broadcasters with 25 Broadcast Excellence Awards Saturday night, including Station of the Year for WILX-TV 10.
The Station of the Year award marks back-to-back wins for WILX-TV 10. “This is continued reinforcement of the great work our teams do every day, covering the important local news, weather and sports that local viewers have depended on us for,” News 10 Lansing News Director Mike Schram said. “We have the market’s top-rated newscasts. We have the best websites and social media presence. Our journalists are the longest-serving and most trusted in the market. These awards are a recognition of the daily
commitment we have to being there for our neighbors every day.”
The icing on the cake for 517 Business, which partners with Gray Media on reporting business news briefs in our publication, is that the company has signed on to be the media sponsor for the upcoming 517 Business Lady Classic, returning to Royal Scot Sept. 11. Anchor Seth Wells is expected to participate again this year as a caddie. Watch both WILX 10 and Fox 47 to see promos for the event, with hints of Wells in his caddie role.
What’s next for Gray Media? We’re sure their producers would simply say … “Stay tuned.”
