Lansing’s rich history will be put in the spotlight as cable network C-SPAN films segments here for its series examining the past of cities across the nation.

C-SPAN crews arrived Thursday and will film visit various literary and historic sites, interview local historians and non-fiction authors, and conduct educational and community outreach in Lansing through June 25.

A preview of what viewers will see in September will be revealed as representatives from the Lansing Regional Chamber of Commerce, business leaders, elected officials and Comcast representatives meet with C-SPAN producers at 9 a.m. June 24 at the Lansing Board of Water Historic Train Depot in REO Town. A roundtable discussion will take place, during which the national cable network will reveal the stories and segments to be explored by C-SPAN.

Film crews are focusing on the historic and non-fiction literary aspects of the Capital City during the weeklong visit. The local segments recorded throughout the week will air on Book TV (on C-SPAN2, Comcast channel 104) and American History TV (on C-SPAN3, Comcast channel 105) throughout C-SPAN’s special Lansing weekend, Sept. 21-22.

The C-SPAN “Cities Tour – Exploring the American Story” takes Book TV and American History TV on the road, featuring the literary life and history of selected cities. The segments are aired on the first and third weekends of each month.
