Jerry Kooiman, a longtime Michigan State University College of Human Medicine assistant dean, has been promoted to chief external relations office and given additional responsibilities overseeing the college’s relationships with health systems and other external partners.
“As a community-based medical school, the partnerships we have with hospitals for medical education and research across the state are critical to our success as a medical school,” Kooiman said. “Our statewide footprint gives us the opportunity to transform health statewide.”
His duties include advising Dean Norman J. Beauchamp Jr., M.D., on strategy development as the college expands its partnerships. Kooiman also oversees relationships with life sciences industries interested in collaborating with the university to commercialize research discoveries.
