The news broke in January. Detroit’s Buddy’s Pizza would be opening a location in Delta Township at 5924 W. Saginaw Highway. The grand opening was to take place in March.
The novel coronavirus had other plans, and the March grand opening was postponed indefinitely.
With some easing on Michigan’s stay-at-home order, Buddy’s Pizza finally opened for business Monday, June 1, on a modified curbside carryout basis with all of the first day’s proceeds going to Haven House, which provides emergency housing and support services for families with children.
“The work Haven House does to provide housing and resources to those in need is critical to the Lansing community — and it’s a mission we strongly support at Buddy’s,” said Burton Heiss, CEO of Buddy’s Pizza. “We look forward to growing our partnership with Haven House and continuing to support their mission as we build roots in the Lansing community.”
Opening day was a success. “We anticipated a busy and exciting opening day, and that’s definitely what we experienced,” Heiss said. “We’re grateful to the community for choosing to dine with us on opening day and helping us support Haven House with opening day donations.”
As for how much was donated to Haven House from Buddy’s opening day, those numbers will be made public in mid-June.
