A brand-new $2.5 million outdoor pool facility has opened at the University Club of Michigan State University. A ribbon-cutting ceremony was held July 20. U-Club Board President Bill Beekman; U-Club CEO and General Manager Karen Grannemann; Lansing Mayor Andy Schor; Lansing Regional Chamber of Commerce President and CEO Tim Daman; Luke Landscaping owner and facility designer Rick Luke; and U-Club swim team members, board members and staff were in attendance.
Access to the club’s new pool facility is restricted to U-Club members and their invited guests. However, University Club membership is open to anyone in the community.
“This new facility is an investment in the club’s future and in the community,” said Grannemann. “We have generations of member families who have grown up at the U-Club pool, creating lifelong friendships and great memories. Some learned to swim here, others competed on the club’s swim team, or had their first job lifeguarding or working at the snack bar. Ensuring those wonderful connections and memories continue for generations to come was the driving force behind this project.”
The project involved a 10-month renovation that included a complete replacement and expansion of the U-Club pool, which was 47 years old.
The pool facility would not have been possible without the efforts of many talented Michigan-based companies who worked to complete the project.
“I can’t say enough about their professionalism, expertise and hard work,” said Grannemann.
The new facility features a large zero-depth entry pool, a diving well with a diving board, a competition-size pool with six lap lanes, expanded pool decks, a shaded area and lush landscaping. Dining is available at the Splash Snack Bar and Garden Terrace, and there is an adults-only area complete with hot tub, fire pit and a shade pavilion.
