Names must be submitted by Oct. 25
The Michigan Public Service Commission is accepting names of nominees for two seats on a state task force that develops statewide recommendations for the operation, use and regulation of unmanned aircraft systems.
Under Act 436 of 2016, known as the “Unmanned Aircraft Systems Act,” the chair of the Michigan Public Service Commission nominates two members to the Unmanned Aircraft Systems Task Force. The nominees must be knowledgeable in public utilities operation, according to a news release from the commission.
Of the two task force members, one represents public utilities in the Lower Peninsula and one represents utilities in the Upper Peninsula. Nominees for both seats, now vacant after members resigned, would fill out the remainder of four-year terms that expire July 31, 2021. Members receive no compensation for serving on the task force.
Recommendations for potential nominees must be submitted to the commission no later than 5 p.m. Oct. 25.
Written recommendations may be mailed to Executive Secretary, Michigan Public Service Commission, P.O. Box 30221, Lansing, MI 48909. Electronic submissions may be emailed to email@example.com.
Recommendations must include the name, address, contact information and qualifications of the potential nominee, according to the release. Qualifications may be provided in a resume or other format but should address how the nominee meets the statutory requirements for the position. A cover letter is optional and self-nominations are permitted. All information submitted will become public information.
After review, MPSC Chair Sally Talberg expects to nominate two members to Gov. Gretchen Whitmer, who officially appoints members to the task force.
