A state pilot program offering rebates to small manufacturing facilities for projects leading to on-site energy savings is now available statewide.

The Small Manufacturers Energy Waste Reduction Incentive pilot has been expanded, offering rebates of up to $15,000 per facility, according to the Michigan Energy Office.

Small manufacturers in Michigan with 50 or fewer full-time employees worldwide are eligible for the program, said Michigan Energy Office Director Robert Jackson. Applicants must agree to report project energy savings, completing a one-year follow-up survey and an Energy Office news release about the project’s success.

“We’re pleased to make this rebate program available to small manufacturers throughout Michigan,” Jackson said. “It will help jump-start a variety of energy waste reduction activities at small manufacturers, who face many challenges. Energy waste reduction projects will help them reduce their energy use and lower their costs, making them more competitive.”

Examples of energy waste reduction activities that are eligible include:

  • Insulation
  • Energy Star-qualified windows and doors
  • Variable frequency drives
  • Advanced lighting, motor and operational controls
  • Level II and Level III American Society of Heating, Refrigerating and Air Conditioning Engineers energy audits

Proposed activities must be directed at achieving on-site energy savings at a company’s manufacturing facility, provide a minimum one-to-one match and involve no equipment costing $5,000 or more.

More information, along with the rebate application, is at michigan.gov/energy/0,4580,7-364-85455_85516_85523-475268–,00.html.
