Shaheen Chevrolet was started by our father, Michael Shaheen, in 1970. He bought a Chevy store on Michigan Avenue a few blocks from the state Capitol.
After graduating from Michigan State University, I joined him in the business — and my brothers, Jim and Dan, joined shortly thereafter. We moved into our Martin Luther King Boulevard facility in 1972, and I became the dealer in 1975 after the passing of our father.
In 1999, we moved the business to our current location on American Road in South Lansing. Today, we are over 500 strong in dedicated associates serving our clientele like they are a guest in our home.
In fact, a very important part of our culture is that we don’t use the term customer. Instead, you are a guest in our home. We want our guests to be delighted that they chose Shaheen Chevrolet and Shaheen Cadillac for their automotive needs.
The Shaheen Team is dedicated to providing the ultimate automotive experience. That is our mission statement and what we believe and live every day. Every associate carries a domino to remind them that just like stacking dominos side by side, when one stands or falls, they do it together.
We carry this philosophy even further by taking care of each other with our Be Nice program that promotes suicide prevention and awareness.
Other ways we develop our culture is by supporting the 4-H program at the Ingham County Fair buying animals at the large animal auction, have the meat processed and give it back to our associates.
In September, our annual car show supported The Davies Project, donating 100% of the proceeds, more than $6,000, to help ill children receive free transportation to medical appointments.
In October, we supported Breast Cancer Awareness Month with a bake sale, raising over $4,600. We love supporting our Lansing community.
Guest retention is the most important thing we can do to grow our business. This is the main reason we built our Quick Lube and Tire Center. We serve 100 guests a day with their automotive needs. We added the Cadillac franchise in 2019 to serve a market that had been underserved locally for years.
We are also the No. 1 distributor of GM parts in Michigan and No. 3 in the nation, with 78 trucks on the road daily. And we break ground in spring 2026 with a new, state-of-the-art collision center on our American Road campus.
It all comes down to one word: team. It is promoted by our management, led by general manager Jason Cords and carried throughout our entire organization.
Our guests come to us with their needs and wants, and it is our duty and responsibility to be the solution to their automotive needs. This is how we have become a leader in giving back to our beloved Lansing community.
