Capital Sportsplex, a new indoor athletic and community facility in the Lansing area, is poised to transform how local athletes train, compete and connect throughout the year.

Led by Gronthik Chatterjee, president and CEO of Capital Sportsplex, the facility was developed to address a clear and growing need in the region: A centralized, high-quality indoor space capable of supporting multiple sports at scale — particularly during Michigan’s winter months.

“Our goal is to create more than just a sports facility. We’re building a place where people can come together year-round,” said Chatterjee. “We want athletes to have a home, and families to have a place they can rely on no matter the time of year.”

Spanning approximately 134,400 square feet, the climate-controlled dome will feature more than 110,000 square feet of premium turf space and over 20,000 square feet of court surfaces. The facility has been thoughtfully designed to host multiple sports and events simultaneously, offering flexibility for a wide range of programming.

The turf layout includes a full-sized 11v11 soccer field and a dedicated 9v9 field, both designed to deliver true match-ready playing environments. These spaces can also be reconfigured into smaller formats, such as 7v7 and 4v4, supporting leagues, tournaments, camps and player development programs for athletes of all ages and skill levels.

In addition to turf fields, Capital Sportsplex will feature a sports court that can accommodate up to 10 pickleball courts, four volleyball courts or three futsal courts, creating expanded year-round opportunities for competition, recreation and community engagement.

The facility is designed to serve a broad audience, from youth athletes and competitive travel teams to adult recreational leagues and families seeking accessible, consistent activity options.

Currently, there are no options for full-size indoor soccer training in the Greater Lansing area. As a result, many local teams are forced to train across multiple locations during the winter, often on surfaces that do not reflect true game conditions. Similarly, volleyball clubs frequently operate out of separate facilities due to space limitations.

Capital Sportsplex aims to solve these challenges by providing a single, centralized location where teams and organizations can train and compete under one roof. For families, this also means fewer nights spent traveling between locations and more consistent scheduling throughout the season.

Beyond local programming, the facility is positioned to serve as a regional hub for tournaments and large-scale events, attracting teams and visitors from across Michigan and beyond. This is expected to bring a steady flow of visiting teams and families to the area supporting local businesses, including hotels, restaurants and retail.

“What sets this facility apart is its ability to bring everything together — multiple sports, age groups and levels of play — in one place,” said Jason Barron, general manager. “That kind of accessibility and quality simply hasn’t existed here at this scale.”

In addition to athletics, Capital Sportsplex will offer space for community events, camps and private rentals, further expanding its role as a gathering place for the region.

The facility is expected to open this month, with strong early interest from local clubs and organizations already building momentum ahead of launch. Additional details on programming, leagues and rentals will be shared as the opening approaches.

For Chatterjee and his team, the vision is clear: To create a lasting impact not just on local sports, but on the broader community.

“We see this as an investment in Lansing’s future,” he said. “It’s about creating more opportunities for athletes, for families and for the entire community to come together in a meaningful way.”
