Since the beginning of the 20th century, Jazz music has laid its roots into American culture. On Thursday, April 24, one of jazz music’s upcoming talents Cyrille Aimée will perform at the Wharton Center for Performing Arts!
At the age of 26, Aimée has already released four CDs internationally and in 2007, she won the Montreaux Jazz Festival’s International Vocal Competition.
“I love the connection music creates between musicians, and also the connection between the musicians and audience,” said Aimée. “Itʼs something we can’t see or grasp, but everyone feels it.”
Growing up in Samois-sur-Seine, France, Aimée participated in an annual festival, which honored the legendary gypsy musician, Django Reinhardt. After hearing the music that the gypsies played, she fell in love with it. To her, their music “reflects a way of life, a sense of freedom and living each day like it’s the last.”
Aimée knew she wanted to be a performer starting at a young age. She recalls her first performance saying, “I was filled with a feeling that was wonderful and singing was what I wanted to do for the rest of my life.”
Each of Aimée’s songs reflects a special story to her. She loves the different influences that her band brings together and believes that their sound is the most unique thing the concert has to offer.
Aiméeʼs first performance in East Lansing will take place on Thursday, April 24 at 7:30 p.m. in the Pasant Theatre.
“Be ready to hear some great guitars and to have a lot of fun! I hope to see you there,” said Aimée.
