Calling all gourmets and others with discerning palates: Start brushing up now on your social graces and etiquette because refined dining is on the menu.

The table will be set at 7 p.m. May 28 for A Taste of Sophistication, a fine-dining food tasting being presented by Serenity Catering featuring Sweet Temptations Desserts. Doors for the semi-formal event at The Cadillac Room, 1115 S. Washington Ave. in Lansing, open at 6 p.m. and seating is limited. Reservations are encouraged by May 15. Cost is $35 per person or $60 per couple.

Based in Las Vegas, Serenity Catering is owned and operated by executive chef and Lansing native Lynnejai Turner. Turner started as a home cook before moving to Las Vegas to take her culinary skills to the next level. She enrolled in the Le Cordon Bleu College of Culinary Arts, where she was nominated for Student Culinarian of the Year. Turner has worked in several fine-dining kitchens, such as Bouchon, Jose Serrano, Emerald of Queens Ridge, and Andiron Steak and Sea. She also was a featured contestant on the Food Network competition show “Cooks vs. Cons,” where she cooked for chefs Marcus Samuelsson and Geoffrey Zakarian.

Turner said this is the first time she’ll be bringing a tasting back to her hometown.

“I still get so much support from family and friends in Lansing who have never had an opportunity to taste my food,” she said. “I thought that I needed to bring something to them. This will be a chance to have something elegant and another thing to do in Lansing.”

The menu for the exclusive culinary evening includes four tasting courses as well as a dessert plate. The first course consists of mozzarella, arugula and grilled pears as well as roasted butternut squash soup. Diners then move on to a second course of salmon croquette with lemon ginger aioli. The third course includes catfish with sweet potato grits. The fourth course will bring spicy citrus chicken with buttered parsley rice. Rounding out the evening is the dessert plate from Sweet Temptations, which includes a tiramisu dessert cup, sweet potato cheesecake and maple bacon drizzle.

Tickets for A Taste of Sophistication can be purchased through the digital payments service Zelle by using the phone number 517-944-0751 or through Cash App by using $ChefLynneJai.
