Salvation Army Seeks Bell Ringers

Volunteer shifts are available at locations across the Lansing region.

The Salvation Army — Lansing Capital Area is seeking volunteer bell ringers for the 2022 Christmas season. The nonprofit requests the community’s support to help meet its $950,000 fundraising goal.

Bell ringing begins Nov. 18 and will continue through Dec. 24th, excluding Thanksgiving Day and Sundays. The Salvation Army aims to fill 8,270 hours of bell ringing shifts across more than 20 kettle locations through Clinton, Eaton and Ingham counties.

“Both the demand for our services and the need for public support represent huge challenges. This is a call for all hands on deck. History has shown ours is a community that cares for each other and rises to meet the challenges of taking care of those in need,” said Maj. Jim Irvine, Lansing Capital Area coordinator.

Individuals and families can sign up as volunteer bell ringers at The Salvation Army’s red kettles by visiting Volunteers have the option to choose a two-hour shift at one of the red kettle locations or participate in a virtual red kettle. Virtual red kettles are an online, peer-to-peer option that can be used to raise funds among friends, at work, or with family.

The Salvation Army is committed to providing numerous community programs for tri-county residents, including rent and utility assistance, quality child care, emergency disaster services, more than 20,000 meals for individuals in need and Christmas assistance for 9,500 people in the past year. Donations help ensure The Salvation Army can continue to provide critical programs and services to anyone in need not only through the Christmas season but all year long.

Supporters can make a tax-deductible contribution to The Salvation Army 2022 Red Kettle Christmas Campaign through one of the following:

  • Texting GIFT to 24365.
  • Donating money at red kettles or online via virtual kettle, PayPal or Venmo.
  • Volunteering as a virtual or in-person bell ringer.
  • Visiting org.
