Happy Birthday, Baby!

I’m struggling to identify the perfect gift for my two-year-old … I know what you’re thinking. But I do have a baby. You’re holding her right now. She is two this month, and I’m ready to celebrate. December is always a month of celebration for me, but this occasion is especially gratifying.

I can still remember the original discussion about launching the magazine. It didn’t necessarily seem like a great idea at the time … I did the research, followed up and gathered input from several key members of the community. No one I talked to thought it was a good idea. However, I did. And my team did.

Taking risks has always been fun for me. If you don’t risk, you can’t gain. Sometimes when you try something and it fails, you learn the most valuable lessons. (I’ve certainly learned a thing or two through the years.) If the magazine hadn’t worked out for me, I would’ve been fine learning the life-changing lessons from it. Don’t get me wrong; I’m happier that it is going well.

The magazine has been an amazing bundle of joy and a wonderful addition to my life. I can’t tell you the number of interesting people I’ve met, stories I’ve heard and feedback we’ve received as a result of the publication. It’s so nice to know that the information that we provide to the community makes people happy. From the beginning, we wanted to focus on the good stuff. There are so many wonderful people doing great things, and it simply doesn’t get out to the public. I really wanted to change that.

Although there is so much more to cover, each month my team and I try our best to get the stories that are interesting to you into the month’s issue. It is so nice to hear from readers all over the greater Lansing area about how the magazine or a particular story has impacted him or her. That’s right, I said him. You would be surprised how many fellas are reading the publication. Do you think they’re learning a little something about us gals? I hope so.

We asked some of our friends and partners to let us know what they think about CAWLM and its progress. I hope you enjoy reading their comments as much as we did.

Since it is December, I would be remiss not to focus a few lines on the holidays. Although it has been a tough economic year, most of us have much to be thankful for. I hope that you are able to spend time with family and friends. If you’re able, give a little to those who haven’t had as good a year and remember that focusing on the positives in life has a way of bringing it back around to you.

Thank you for reading, and from everyone at CAWLM, we hope to bring you the good news in 2010.

Happy holidays and merry Christmas, Greater Lansing!
