Taking a Community’s Temperature: Michigan Public Health Institute helps elevate the region

Community health goes far beyond physical well-being.

The Michigan Public Health Institute is one of 50 public health institutions across the United States. It’s headquartered in Okemos but has teams spread across Michigan and the rest of the nation, working with health organizations to center equity, promote health and advance well-being.

“We do much more than people realize and describe ourselves as a ‘team of teams,’” said Dr. Renee Branch Canady, CEO of the health institute health institute. “The people at MPHI are not only content experts in different areas of public health, but we also have teams of skilled process and implementation experts who work to support other public health organizations as they pursue vital goals for their own regions. This could mean working with partners in academia, government, community-based organizations and health care providers. Whether working with other public health institutes or community organizations, it’s about working together to make sure every person, neighborhood or community has a tomorrow that is healthier than today.”
