MSUFCU AWARDS STAND OUT STUDENT SCHOLARSHIP, CONTINUES COMMUNITY INVOLVEMENT THAT BENEFITS YOUTH

Michigan State University Federal Credit Union (MSUFCU) has been a community partner in several events that recognize youth. From the annual Student Art Exhibit to the sponsorship of ePIFanyNow, which awards students for doing good deeds, MSUFCU has found a way to play a part in countless events.

It’s no surprise that MSUFCU, in partnership with WILX, selected students weekly as the “Stand Out Student” and offered the opportunity to each student to apply for the Stand Out Student scholarship.

The students had the task of completing applications on MSUFCU’s website, keeping a grade-point average of 3.0 or higher, being a member of MSUFCU, providing a letter of recommendation from a teacher or adviser and writing an essay on why financial education is important.

In June, Grand Ledge High School student Scott Thomas received a $500 Stand Out Student scholarship for his efforts.

“We are proud to recognize these students for their academic achievements and help support them as they continue to learn and grow,” said Whitney Anderson-Harrell, MSUFCU’s chief community development officer. “MSUFCU’s mission is to help members achieve financial security and, ultimately, their dreams, and we will be there every step of the way to help them enhance their financial literacy.”

MSUFCU is nationally recognized for its financial education initiatives, ranking No. 1 in Michigan and second in the nation for the 2017 Alphonse Desjardins Adult Financial Education Award by the Credit Union National Association.

Next, for MSUFCU, youth members and their families are invited to MSUFCU’s annual Kid’s Day celebration Saturday, Aug. 4 from noon to 2 p.m. at MSUFCU headquarters. The party theme is “The Science of Saving.” Children and families can expect outdoor inflatables, prizes, tattoos, free lunch and more. Space is limited. Reservations can be made at msufcu.org/specialoffers/kidsday.
