Talented students from 18 participating mid-Michigan high schools, and one home school student, are showcasing their artwork at MSU Federal Credit Union’s (MSUFCU) Headquarters in hopes of earning the community’s vote so they can walk away a winner.

The 11th annual exhibit kicked off on Thursday, January 25 with help from featured local artist and sculptor Andrew Sandstedt, who seized the moment for an opportunity to encourage young artists to never give up on their dreams by sharing his steps for success. Students, parents, teachers, school officials and dignitaries were on hand to view the art before the general public.

Participating schools include Bath, Charlotte, DeWitt, East Lansing, Eaton Rapids, Everett, Fowlerville, Grand Ledge, Haslett, Holt, Laingsburg, Lansing Christian, Mason, Okemos, St. Johns, Waverly, Webberville and Williamston.

The public is invited to view the submitted artwork and cast their vote for the best piece in each category, now through February 23, either in person at the MSUFCU Headquarters or online at msufcuart.com. Votes will help determine the People’s Choice Awards and a School Spirit Award that will be given to the high school that draws the most cumulative votes.

Three local artists will judge the students’ artwork to determine who will receive recognition. Prizes include $300 for first place winners, $200 for second place winners, $100 for third place winners and additional cash prizes for 10 honorable mentions. One student will also be awarded $50 for winning the Social Media Award, which is earned by acquiring the most “likes” on their pieces’ uploaded image in the MSUFCU Art Exhibit Facebook page’s 2018 photo gallery.

The event is sponsored by Shaheen Chevrolet and Capital Area Women’s LifeStyle Magazine. Artwork can be viewed during normal branch hours, 9 a.m. – 5:30 p.m. Monday-Thursday; 9 a.m. – 6 p.m. Friday; and 9 a.m. – 3 p.m. Saturday at the MSUFCU Headquarters in East Lansing.
