517 Account Executive Nikki Guinn reached out to Greater Lansing to get answers to this month’s burning question:
What is a new business or development you think we could benefit from here in the Greater Lansing area?

Liza Gamel, director of public relations, Ambrose Care Management
At Home specializes in low-cost furniture, décor and seasonal items. Lansing has a moderate-income population, where value-focused retail performs well. At Home has been aggressively expanding nationwide to reach new markets. Currently, we have to travel to Kalamazoo to shop at this store or travel outside of our geographic area.

Mike Bowler, Realtor
We have a massive aging population coming through the next five to 10 years. I’d love to see more coordinated senior transition services — things like downsizing support companies, estate clean-out services and senior-focused housing developments.
These businesses would support the demographic reality of our aging population. As a Realtor who specializes in the senior housing market, this would support housing in Greater Lansing.

Jessica Vilca, vice president of marketing and communications, Lansing Economic Area Partnership
I’d love to see more third places— gathering spots where people can slow down, connect and just exist outside of work and home. Think cozy neighborhood hangouts, experiential spaces, places where community builds.

Sam Eddy, owner, The Eddy Insurance Agency
I would say a large indoor/outdoor facility for various club athletic programs (volleyball, basketball, baseball, softball, soccer). Two good examples of what I mean would be the Legacy Center in Brighton and the UWM Sports Complex in Pontiac.
